No 86043402, R-I Balbir Singh was born in village Peepli in District Jhunjhunu of Rajasthan. He joined 12 SRG NSG on 01 October 1989. In August 1995 along with other NSG personnel R-I Balbir Singh was deployed at TF Chandigarh to provide mobile security cover to Late Shri Beant Singh, the then Chief Minister of Punjab, under ‘Operation Black Panther’. On 31 Aug 1995 at about 1713 hours at Punjab Secretariat, Chandigarh when Late Shri Beant Singh was about to get on to his bullet proof car, a powerful bomb blast took place, in which all the three NSG personnel along with Shri Beant Singh died on spot due to sustaining major impact of the blast. R-I Balbir Singh made the supreme sacrifice as a conspicuous act of bravery, unparalleled dedication to the mission during ‘Operation Black Panther’ on 31 Aug 1995. He was survived by father Jagana Ram and wife Saroj Bala.
