Enabling The Differently -Abled

1.    COUNSELLING SESSION FOR PARENTS OF DIFFERENTLY ABLED WARDS 10TH MAY 2014

     A counselling session, in association with Akshay Pratisthan and Manovikas Samiti, was organised at Zorawar Hall Trg Centre, Manesar for NSG personnel having differently abled-wards. Out of 41 cases, 27 parents attended the session. The psychologists, occupational therapist from Akshay Pratishthan and Manovikas samiti explained  the need of inclusive approach towards rehabilitation of differently -abled wards. The counselling session was followed up by a meeting with representative of Manovikas Samiti on 6th June 2014 to finalise a roadmap for creating a framework for inclusive rehabilitation of differently-abled wards. Akshay Pratishthan was also approached to advice on a roadmap for establishing a rehabilitation centre/inclusive school for them.

   

 

2.        VISIT TO ASHA SCHOOL:

     President NWYA accompanied by Executive and Working Committee members, visited the Asha School on 15th July 2014. The visit was aimed to learn from the experience of ASHA School in the inclusive growth of differently-abled children and in the shaping of a framework for proposed facility at Manesar. The members visited the class rooms and activity areas and interacted with children and resource person.

 

   

 

 3.      LEARNING DISABILITIES IN CHILDREN

     Dr. Nandini C Singh, Addl Professor, National Brain Research Centre NBRC assisted by clinical psychologist Richa Midha delivered an informative talk on “Learning disabilities in Children” on 26th August 2014 at Zorawar Hall Training Centre. The talk was attended by NSG commandos, ladywives/families.

 

   

 4.     Rehabilitation Centre Prerna - Inaugurated by Smt Radha Chaudhury, President NWYA

     Taking a step further towards the rehabilitation of differently-abled wards of NSG personnel, a facilitation centre, “Prerna” , has been established at Manesar garrison. The centre is equipped with facilities for physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. The centre was inaugurated by Smt Radha Chaudhury, President NWYA on 16th Oct 2014 significantly marking the 30th NSG Raising Day celebrations. Currently there are 25 numbers of differently-abled children in the campus.

   

   

5.     “CARE, CONCERN, COMMITMENT”

       The “International Day for People with Disabilities” was observed by NWYA on 3rd December 2014 at “Prerna: Facilitation Centre for differently-abled” at it Manesar garrison. Children of NSG Primary school and KV Manesar, joined by children from Prerna staged a short cultural programme conveying the theme, “Together we can”. Prof Dr. Pravat Mandal and Mrs Sara Khan, Clinical psychologist of National Brain Research Centre NBRC also addressed the parents on the occasion.

 
 
     
   
   

6.    COUNSELLING SESSION ON 18TH DECEMBER 2014

     A Counselling Session on “Parental Perspective on the Challenges and Opportunities in managing Children with Cerebral Palsy & other disabilities" was organized by NWYA  on 18th December 2014 at Manesar garrison for NSG personnel and nearby villages having differently-abled children/wards. Shri Prashant Saikia, guest speaker for UNICEF, AIIMS / Ministry of Women and Child Development and father of a child with cerebral palsy gave a presentation, “Baibhav-Our unplanned journey” and explain the challenges and management of children with cerebral palsy. Also, Smt Madhumati Bose, an expert in Early Intervention of children with disabilities especially in children upto six years of age addressed the parents in the session.

   
     

 7.    MUSIC THERAPY SESSION  

     A music therapy session on “Music for healing and social change” for the families of differently-abled children was organized on 20th March 2015 at Manesar under the aegis of NWYA. Eminent Violinist and recipient of the “Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for Music”, Ms Sunita Bhuyan performed with her team.  Sh T.D. Dhariyal, former Deputy Chief CommissionerDisabilities and presently consultant of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment was invited to grace the occasion as Chief Guest. 

   
     

8.    WORKSHOP ON "DIET AND NUTRITION" FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN & PREVENTION OF HEAT STROKE AND   DIARRHOEAL DISEASES   

           A workshop on “Nutrition & Diet for Special Children & Prevention of Heat Stroke and Diarrhoeal Diseases” for the families of  children with special  needs was organized on 20th  April 2015 at Manesar under the aegis of NWYA  in association with Park Hospital, Gurgaon. Workshop was attended by the Executive and Working committee members of NWYA and parents along with  special needs children.  During the workshop, Dr. Ajay Mehta, Paediatrician and Dr. Shashi Mathur, Consultant Nutritionist, Park Hospital delivered a presentation on important issues  related to nutrition and diet and   answered  various queries from the attendees .  Pamphlets on nutrition were also distributed on the occasion.
