Empowering Women

1.INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY-2014: 

     NWYA observed International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2014 at Manesar and at all regional hubs. At Manesar, the day was observed by organizing a talk on “Sexual harassment at the Work Place” at Zorawar Hall, Training Centre. The talk was primarily aimed for the Mahila Commandos of the Force and families of NSG personnel who are working. Sh L.N.Mishra, Addl JAG, HQ NSG explained the concept of sexual harassment and provisions of the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act-2013.

   

 

2. WORKSHOP ON BLOCK PRINTING:

     With a view to impart skills to ladies and families, a workshop on block printing was conducted at Manesar wef 15 April 2014 to 25 April 2014. This workshop was conducted by Smt Jyoti Chawla in 3 phases which included, Training of Trainers and conduct of training in 2 batches.The participants were imparted knowledge and skills on block printing using various techniques.  140 lady wives/families of NSG officers/men attended the workshop and learnt the art of making block-printed items e.g dupattas, table mats, napkins, runners and table cloth. These products are kept in NWYA Shop for sale at reasonable price.

 

   

 

3.  WORKSHOP ON CARD MAKING:

     Workshop on Card-making was organised for ladies and families of NSG officers/men in two phases ie. Wef from 28 April 2014 to 02 May 2014 and 05 May 2014 to 09 May 2014. Smt Ramya Sree Reddy and Smt Deepali Sharma conducted the workshop and imparted skills of card making to 45 participants. The participants made bottle bags, small and large bags, cards of various sizes, envelopes, book marks, gift tags and gift boxes. Items made were provided to NWYA Shop for sale.

 

   

4.  INTERACTION WITH FAMILIES

       As a part of grievance re-dressal measure and to obtain suggestions and feedback on welfare related issues, Smt Radha Chaudhury, President NWYA visited NSG Units and interacted with families of NSG personnel on monthly rotational basis. Families were encouraged to enjoy, enrich and excel. Suggestions were welcomed and grievances heard and redressed.

   
     

5.  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY - 2015

        “International Women’s Day” was celebrated by NWYA on 09th  March 2015 at IICA Manesar.

      Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest, Smt. Aruni Doval stressed on the importance of women’s empowerment. She  appreciated the various welfare measures initiated by NWYA.

      The programme included songs and dance  by “Vinayak Blind Women’s Welfare Society” followed by a song on women empowerment- ‘Suno Suno Meri Awaaz’ by NWYA members, Smt. Koyeli Banerjee & her Choir. Open interaction on ‘Domestic Violence’ was organised by NGO “Maitri” followed by a video clip of Skits by K V Manesar on female foeticide, good touch and bad touch and gender issues.

   
     
     

 6.   SELF DEFENCE WORKSHOP FOR GIRLS

      To empower women to be able to respond against physical harassment/assault, NWYA organised a workshop in self defence on 4th Feb 2015 at Manesar campus. Ms Vaamaa Baldota, a self defence expert and trainer conducted the workshop for school girls based on her program, DARE "Defence Against Rape and Eve Teasing". Ms Sangeeta Rani Kalia, IPS, DCPWest, Gurgaon Police graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

     DARE is based on leverage, technique and timing not just speed, power and strength. It also included verbal conformation skills, situation enhancement , Avoidance ,Response, Survival and Self Defence techniques.

     NWYA felt that this workshop was of great importance due to the shocking rise in the  rate of molestation and rape in India , which is 35% every year.

 

  7.   UNVEILING OF NWYA NEWSLETTER 

           Smt. Radha Chaudhury, President, NWYA unveiled the inaugural issue of NWYA Newsletter “PARVAAZ” at Officers’ Institute, Manesar on 28th May, 2015.  A host of Executive and Working Committee members of NWYA were present on the occasion. 

          During the past year, NWYA has been actively involved in a host of welfare initiatives including inauguration of Rehab Centre, Dance and Drama School, Book Cafe – Children’s Library; conduct of NWYA  Foundation Day and NWYA Mela; various counselling sessions and workshops on health, environmental awareness, motivational talks, quiz, painting and photography competition and musical shows.   It was felt that a Newsletter would spread the required awareness about NWYA activities among its members.

         ‘Parvaaz’ meaning ‘Udaan’ or ‘Flight’ intends to give wings to NWYA in pursuit of its endeavour for undertaking the best welfare initiatives for NSG Commandos, their families and children in particular and the society in general.

 

     
     

   8.   Teej festival 19 August 2015: 

        Teej Festival was celebrated at Hanger, NSG Manesar on 19th August 2015 under the aegis of NWYA. Smt. Savi Tayal President NWYA was the chief guest of the function.
